Good MIS starts from decisions, not from data. If a number does not change what someone does, it does not belong in the pack.
Where it usually goes wrong
- The MIS is a printout of the trial balance and the debtors list.
- Each department keeps its own spreadsheet and the figures never agree.
- The report is ready on the 25th of the following month, too late to act on.
How we work
We start by listing the decisions taken each month and work backwards to the data. We fix the data flow at source, usually in Tally or the ERP, so the numbers are right first time. Then we build the pack and the dashboards, and sit in on the first few monthly reviews to make the routine stick.
